In a shocking turn of events, I did not hit the gym early this morning. I am definitely not a morning person, and it takes an act of God to get me to workout in the AM. Or, more commonly, the promise of happy hour.
I did, in fact, go to happy hour today after work, but I pushed my scheduled easy 5 miler to tomorrow. I am pretty flexible about switching up workout/rest days, and will usually try to work my training schedule around my social calendar. The only real exception I have to this rule is my Saturday long run. After training for 3 marathons over the past year, I have come to appreciate the value of a quiet Friday night and an early long run on Saturday morning. It gives me the freedom to do whatever I want for the rest of my weekend, including going out dancing on Saturday night (spoiler alert for this weekend!)
Tonight I went with a few friends from work to Oyster House in Center City. Oysters are one of the only foods I really dislike. No matter how many times I try them, I can't seem to enjoy the taste, even if they are drowning in horseradish and cocktail sauce.
Even though I munched on oyster crackers all evening instead of oysters, my friends enjoyed the "buck-a-shuck" happy hour deal. I was, however, quite satisfied with my drink choices. First up was Kelly's Punch, which was a delicious mix of white wine, brandy, orange liqueur, apple cider, and ginger syrup. They also threw in some yummy cinnamon spiced apples on top.
Next I ordered one of my go-to seasonal beers, the Weyerbacher Winter Ale. This hoppy, spicy ale was a perfect complement after the sweet, summery flavor of the punch.
After a few drinks, I decided it was finally time to bite the bullet and purchase a new laptop. I've been considering it since my old MacBook Pro died a year ago, and I just so happened to be dangerously close to the Apple store. I'm now the proud owner of a brand new 13" MacBook Air!
I feel like a kid on Christmas :)
